I’m Dani Hyden—the author behind Whispers in the Dark. I write gay stories for men (and some women) who know what it feels like to want more than a quick touch. My stories are slow burns and stolen glances, full of heat, danger, and the kind of intimacy that can undo you with just a look.

But it’s also more than that. It’s about connection, and the energy that comes from being in love. It’s about telling our stories so they aren’t forgotten. Growing up gay in the ’80s and ’90s wasn’t easy—desire came with silence, shame, and fear. Writing is my way of reclaiming that, of giving voice to the men we were and the love we still deserve.

I grew up in many places and now live in Europe, dragging my diaries and memories across borders since 1990. A lot of what I write comes straight from the journals I never thought anyone would read—the secret crushes, the near-misses, the moments that still make my pulse kick. I blur memory with fiction until it becomes something more: stories where men fall hard, break rules, and discover themselves in the arms of another.

And yes—I love writing about men as they really are: strong and stubborn at times, magnetic and flawed, but always carrying a vulnerable core. Those are the men who make my pages burn, because beneath every uniform, every bravado, every wall, there’s a heart that beats—if you listen close enough, you’ll hear it too.

You can also hear me whisper these stories into your ear on my podcast, Whispers in the Dark: Gay Stories for Quiet Hearts. It’s part bedtime story, part confession, part guilty pleasure.
